The problem of closed-type hydroponic systems with nutrient recirculation is the lack of a processing method that ensures both the removal of harmful components and the activation of substances useful for plants. The aim of the study is to assess the effect of reused hydroponic solutions treated with spark discharges on lettuce. The experimental work was carried out in 2024 under laboratory conditions. Two experiments with watercress were conducted in “Smart ecofarms”. In the first experiment, the crop was grown on a primary hydroponic solution without fertilizers (control) and a secondary one after a single cultivation and treatment with spark discharges with the addition of fertilizers (experimental version). In the second experiment, watercress was grown in a secondary hydroponic solution with fertilizers without any preliminary treatment (control) and after spark discharge treatment (test variant). In the first experiment, the weight of watercress in the test variant increased by 2 times compared to the control, which is explained by the absence of fertilizers in the latter. In the second experiment, the advantage of the test variant was 8...12%, which is due to the positive effect of spark discharges on nutrients and their negative effect on the microflora of the hydroponic solution. This indicates the potential for using spark discharges to disinfect reusable hydroponic solutions instead of ultraviolet light, which has been used in recent years to grow various types of green crops in greenhouses. The advantage of the proposed treatment method is the stimulation of plant growth due to the formation of active forms of oxygen and nitrogen in addition to the inactivation of bacteria and fungi.
